W02 How I can be the change
This
week we explored the way we think about and fit into the world of social
Innovation. We learned about the different ways people and organizations have
viewed, behaved, and reacted to the various aspects of social change. As human
beings, we have a variety of interests, passions, and opinions about the world
around us. A disciple of Christ might view the reason and approach to finding
solutions to the problems in our world differently than others. But all may
agree that using our particular gifts and talents in a way that helps others
helps us to feel satisfaction and a sense of purpose. The work of making a difference
and being the change has more rewards than monetary and the gauge of success
cannot use only dollar signs. This awareness has brought a sense of unity to
government, non-profits, businesses, and everyday people like me.
I
enjoyed reading the chapter that described Fabio Rosa’s life so much that I
read it a couple of times. While it didn’t give a lot of details about how he
did all that he did, there was enough to see that he had the ability to take
time to research, use critical thinking skills, organize and craft well-delivered
solutions, and help others see his vision. The most significant takeaway for me
was the way he did not give up. He was also absolutely brilliant in seeing each
step and how to achieve it. When roadblocks came, he figured out ways to overcome
them, had help from others, or waited for the right moment that allowed him to
succeed. I have a healthy dose of envy at the skills he had to accomplish so
much over his career.
I
have always felt that God has a work and a purpose for each of us. He knows
what talents and gifts were developed in Pre-earth life and what we are foreordained
to do and be while in this life. The Doctrine of Christ, Faith Repentance Baptism
and the gift of the Holy Ghost allow us to have a relationship with Heavenly
Father and His Son Jesus Christ that is filled with meaning, purpose, and
direction. The covenant path helps us to become a person that is filled with
charity and love for God, mankind, and ourselves. The gift of charity helps us
to act in ways that build Zion for ourselves, our family, neighbors, and our community.
When we see a need, we can use our own gifts and talents, rely on the Holy
Ghost for inspiration, and follow God-given principles that will always bring
goodness and righteous change into the world.
